Job Description

About Toll Group

At Toll, we do more than just logistics - we move the businesses that move the world. Our 16,000 team members can help solve any logistics, transport, or supply chain challenge – big or small. We have been supporting our customers for more than 130 years. Today, we support more than 20,000 customers worldwide with 500 sites in 27 markets, and a forwarding network spanning 150 countries. We are proudly part of Japan Post.

About the Role

Lead the build. Deliver the future. This is your opportunity to drive large-scale warehousing infrastructure across Australia—building high-performing teams and delivering automation-enabled sites that set new industry standards.

As our Retail and Consumer network expands and customer expectations rise, we continue to invest in the smart, scalable, and high-performance warehouse solutions of the future. To support this transformation, we are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Head of Warehouse Automation to lead the physical delivery of our most complex infrastructure programs. This is not a digital transformation role — it is about building real assets, implementing warehouse automation systems, and delivering outcomes on the ground.

As Head of Warehouse Automation, you will shape the project delivery strategy, develop capability, and build and lead a national team. You will ensure that all projects are aligned with our strategic goals, delivered on time and within budget, and meet the highest standards of quality and stakeholder satisfaction. You will take the reins of our most complex and high-value warehousing and automation initiatives—from greenfield builds and physical automation implementations through to customer mobilisation and operational go-live. You'll oversee the end-to-end lifecycle, deploy automation solutions (multi-shuttles, ASRS, AMRs), and lead high-value customer implementations across multiple national sites.

The Opportunity – What You'll Lead

  • Strategically oversee a portfolio of large-scale infrastructure projects across Australia, including new warehouse builds, automated system deployments, and customer transitions.
  • Deliver physical automation programs (e.g. ASRS, multi-shuttles, AMRs) from concept to commissioning, ensuring integration into operations is seamless, safe, and scalable.
  • Drive customer implementations into new and existing facilities, leading solution development and execution with a strong operational lens.
  • Champion project governance, risk management, compliance, and stakeholder reporting — ensuring executive visibility and alignment to Toll's broader business strategy.
  • Lead and work with a high-performing team of project managers, engineers, analysts, and support professionals across multiple, concurrent workstreams.
  • Manage multimillion-dollar budgets, resource allocation, vendor relationships, and cost/benefit outcomes across a complex and dynamic project landscape.
  • Continuously improve delivery capability through the adoption of modern methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid), digital reporting tools, and operational excellence initiatives.

Your experience and qualifications will include:

  • 10+ years of progressive project management experience, including 5+ years in a senior leadership or director-level role within warehouse infrastructure or large-scale operational delivery.
  • Proven track record delivering greenfield sites and leading customer start-ups in automated warehouse environments.
  • Deep understanding of physical automation systems (e.g. AMRs, ASRS, AGVs, multi-shuttles), with the ability to translate technical capability into commercial and operational outcomes.
  • Expertise in project governance, risk and change management, scenario planning, and stakeholder engagement at board and executive levels.
  • Strong capability in budgeting, capital planning, ROI modelling, and commercial delivery of high-value programs.
  • Advanced knowledge of project methodologies such as PMBOK, PRINCE2, and Agile.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field are essential. A background in finance or commercial operations will be highly regarded.

What moves you?

At Toll, you can help play a vital role in delivering what matters. From food, fuel, medicine and rescue services, we keep businesses and communities thriving. Every day brings change. We see that as an opportunity. To be curious. To ask the right questions. And build meaningful connections. Because finding new ways to solve problems is what we do. With a bold vision to expand our global reach, our 16,000+ people bring a passion for progress. We collaborate in friendly, caring teams, supported by approachable leaders who give us the autonomy to quickly make decisions with impact. Learn and grow with industry-leading training, alongside talented experts. Feel empowered to take on diverse challenges and new responsibilities to move you, our customers, and our world further.

You must be entitled to work in Australia and be prepared to undertake pre-employment checks including a criminal history check and medical.
