Job Description

Senior BI Developer / Power BI Specialist (Migration Reporting)

Contract | Sydney, New South Wales

PM-Partners group is a specialist Project Management Consultancy. We have a unique way of running projects and providing training and advice, so our clients get the best results with less cost and risk. Each year we deliver over $3B of projects, train over 10,000 people, and help some of Australia's leading brands improve their PMOs.

We're seeking a Senior BI Developer / Power BI Specialist to deliver migration-focused reporting across a live platform transition. The work is hands-on: building and enhancing dashboards, shaping data, and ensuring stakeholders have clear, trusted reporting on progress, outcomes, and operational performance.

This role is highly stakeholder-facing – communication, engagement, and presentation skills are critical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver Power BI dashboards and reporting to support migration and operational reporting needs
  • Lead requirements workshops and translate business needs into clear metrics, measures and visuals
  • Build and maintain data models (semantic models), DAX measures, and Power BI visuals that drive decision-making
  • Produce and maintain "single source of truth" reporting, including KPI definitions and consistent measurement
  • Present dashboards and insights to stakeholders; explain assumptions, data limitations, and recommendations
  • Work closely with data/technical teams to validate sources, reconcile results, and improve data quality
  • Support continuous improvement across reporting standards, usability, and performance

Required Skills and Experiences

  • Proven senior experience delivering Power BI solutions end-to-end (requirements → build → publish → iterate)
  • Strong SQL / SQL Server capability (T-SQL, querying, joins, shaping data for reporting)
  • Strong experience with data modelling and reporting best practices (performance, governance, usability)
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement: able to influence, challenge constructively, and bring people along
  • Confident presenter who can "talk to the content" and communicate clearly with senior stakeholders

Nice to Have (not mandatory)

  • Financial services experience
  • Migration / transformation program reporting exposure
  • Data transformation experience (Power Query / data cleansing / modelling)
  • Exposure to documentation / design inputs (e.g., Synops, Axure) feeding reporting requirements

Personal Attributes

  • Delivery-focused, proactive, and accountable ("gets it done")
  • Strong judgement around metrics and measurement
  • Comfortable in ambiguity and fast-moving environments
